Handwoven using a wild Ethiopian 'Eri' silk and cotton blend, this beautifully soft throw is made using a variety of skilled processes. The Eri silk is cultivated in Ethiopia and mixed with cotton. Parts of this thread blend are then dyed using natural pomegranate husks, which give an earthy grey colour. These are then woven together on handlooms to create the throws and hand finished with tassels. As is traditional in Ethiopia, men generally work the looms and these have been made using time-honoured methods.
The Eri silk caterpillars eat castor, environmentally friendly plants that grow abundantly all over the country. The silk that is produced has a wonderfully textured and organic look.
